Day 9 – Route 66
Only 91 miles to cover today so a relaxed day with a stop at Wilmslow to stand on the corner. The Eagles tribute has been well done with murals, a flat bed Ford and gift shop. After brunch at a local diner just across the road it was off to the Meteor Crater for viewsContinue reading “Day 9 – Route 66”
Day 8 – Route 66.
What a day today. Started badly with forgetting wallet – luckily realised within a few hundred yards of hotel then a trip around Albequerque to find the iconic Route 66 Diner for breakfast only to find it wasn’t open until 11.00. Things then got better as we headed west to Gallup and the painted dessertContinue reading “Day 8 – Route 66.”
Day 7 – Route 66
Today we have the drive to Santa Fe. Most of us were around to see the sunrise over the Blue Swallow Motel – a real find thanks to Maria. We had a superb breakfast at the kicks on 66 diner then spent time photographing the motels in Tucamari. Then it was off on the driveContinue reading “Day 7 – Route 66”

Today we met Gary, a real character of route 66 at the Gay Parita. His garage is a unique collection of the essence of route 66 – A hillbilly with a red hair obsession. Maria was definitely Garys favourite and her pictures at the end of the blog capture him perfectly. We had a lotContinue reading “Route 66 – Day 5”

Our 4th day on the road requires us to travel from Collinsville to Springfield MI a distance of over 200 miles. Day 3 Route 66
After a snowy start we headed off to sample the delights of Springfield IL. First stop the Shea Gas Station then a guided tour of Abraham Lincolns home with its 3 toilets in one room – you can see why TV took off in the USA! After a short stop to photograph the last mufflerContinue reading “Day 3 Route 66”
Start of day 3 – Route 66.
Had a great day yesterday with the starting at Chicago. Breakfast at Lou Mitchells then a long drive to the start which should have taken 10 minutes but took a lot longer – 2 sat navs and 2 mobiles and the collective genius of the group. Then it was out of the city heading towardsContinue reading “Start of day 3 – Route 66.”

It has finally come and we have now started our route 66 trip. 5 of us flew out from Heathrow and the girls are already in Chicago doing the sights. Our flight was delayed so we arrived in Chicago around 3 hours later than anticipated but managed to visit the John Hancock Observatory with greatContinue reading “Route 66 day 1”
